Investor Activity On GPW Markets In April 2016

PRESS RELEASE

  • Decrease of the value of trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book on the Main Market by 20.8% YoY while the number of transactions increased (+14.8 YoY)
  • Increase of the volume of trade in index futures by 29.1% YoY and single-stock futures
    by 68.8%
  • Increase of the value of bond issues listed on Catalyst by 8.6% YoY and the total value
    of trade on Catalyst by 18.2% YoY
  • Increase of the volume of forward transactions in gas by 81.8% YoY and spot transactions by 13.7%
  • Increase of the volume of spot transactions in electricity by 11.5% YoY

The value of trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book on the Main Market was PLN 13.2 billion in April 2016, representing a decrease of 20.8% year on year. The number of transactions was 1.4 million in April 2016, an increase of 14.8% year on year. The average daily value of trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book was PLN 626.9 million on the Main Market and PLN 4.5 million on NewConnect. The WIG index reached 47,641.99 points at the end of April 2016, a decrease of 15.6% year on year.

The volume of trade in index futures was 326.5 thousand contracts in April 2016, representing an increase of 29.1% year on year. The volume of trade in single-stock futures increased by 68.8% year on year to 101 thousand contracts in April 2016.

The value of bond issues listed on Catalyst was PLN 71.3 billion at the end of April 2016, representing an increase of 8.6% year on year. The total value of trade on Catalyst increased by 18.2% year on year to PLN 213.2 million in April 2016. The total value of trade on TBSP was PLN 19.4 billion in April 2016, representing an increase of 9.8% year on year.

The total volume of spot and forward transactions in electricity was 10.8 TWh in April 2016 compared to 17.7 TWh in April 2015. The total volume of spot and forward transactions in natural gas increased to 12.4 TWh in April 2016 compared to 7.6 TWh in April 2015.

The volume of trade in property rights was 3.9 TWh in April 2016, representing a decrease of 17.6% year on year.

The capitalisation of 431 domestic companies listed on the Main Market was PLN 528.6 billion (EUR 119.9 billion) at the end of April 2016. The total capitalisation of 484 domestic and foreign companies listed on the GPW Main Market was PLN 1,047.7 billion (EUR 237.7 billion) at the end of April 2016.

The pharmaceutical company Master Pharm S.A. was newly listed on the GPW Main Market in April 2016 with an offering of series A shares worth PLN 111 million and a public subscription for series B shares at PLN 18 million. Another company newly listed on the Main Market in April was Polski Bank Komórek Macierzystych with an offering worth PLN 56.4 million.

GPW held 21 trading sessions in April 2016, one more than in April 2015.
