Are You Mom Enough? (Time): Featuring a provocative cover photo of a mother breast-feeding her three-year-old child, the magazine explores attachment parenting. Its three main tenets are extended breast-feeding, co-sleeping and "baby wearing," in which infants are physically attached to their parents by slings.
FDA Panel Favors Arena Obesity Drug: (WSJ) It's the second time this year agency advisers have backed a fat-fighting medication.
Questions Persist for St. Jude Heart Devices: (WSJ) Data from a seven-hospital study found that 67 of 712 of the devices--wires, known as leads, that connect defibrillators to patients' hearts--had failed as of the end of December.
FDA Panel Backs HIV Drug for Preventive Use: (WSJ) The agency is expected to adopt the recommendation and approve a request by Gilead Sciences Inc. to market its widely used HIV drug, Truvada, as a prevention tool.
Unintended Consequence for Dialysis Patients as Drug Rule Changes: (NY Times) The federal Medicare program changed its payment system to reimburse for overall care, bundling together the cost of treatment and drugs, instead of reimbursing for anti-anemia drugs separately.
Chinese Students Use IV Amino Acids to Study for High-Stakes Tests: (Wash Post) According to the China Daily, high school students in central Hubei province were using the amino acids to prepare for university entrance exams in June, believing the supplements would give them energy and improve their memory.
