Initiatives to Update Environmental Regulations Are at the Top of the Agenda of the Meeting of Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Management that Took Place at Moscow Norilsk Nickel Office

On October 29th, 2014 the Moscow headquarters of MMC Norilsk Nickel hosted a session of the extended Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Management (Rosrrirodnadzor) Research and Technology Council chaired by the Head of Rosprirodnadzor, Vladimir Kirillov devoted to: Problems of Identifying Classes of Hazard for Heavy Industry Waste. The meeting was attended by representatives of Rosprirodnadzor, scientific and public organizations, and the business community.

At the meeting of the Research and Technology Council of Rosprirodnadzor the company was represented by First Deputy CEO - Chief Operating Officer, Sergey Dyachenko and Deputy CEO - Head of Corporate, Property and Legal Unit, Elena Bezdenezhnykh.

In their speeches Sergey Dyachenko and Elena Bezdenezhnykh elaborated on current issues that major industrial enterprises face in the field of environment, e.g. treating waste, and proposed relevant solutions.

Other speeches and talks were delivered by officers of Rosprirodnadzor, UC Rusal, EvrazHolding LLC, METALLOINVEST Managing Company, OJSC Russian Railways, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University etc.

Participants in the extended session remarked that environmental issues stem from lacking regulations, that require amendments to current legislation.

The meeting culminated in a resolution to form regulatory initiatives combining proposals and comments made by the business community, scientific and public organizations. In the near tearm the company will draft and proposals to alter the incumbent environmental laws, e.g. those governing treatment of waste and refer them to Rosprirodnadzor.

Hosting the session of the extended Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Management Research and Technology Council with members of the business community, scientific and public organizations invited promotes efficient problem-solving the field of environmental protection.
