Three sintering units operate in the sintering shop to achieve nickel concentrate calcination and produce solid pellets (agglomerate) which are later processed in ore thermal furnaces of the smelting shop. One of sintering process' key advantages is considerable reduction of feed material sulfur grades.

Concentrates are mixed on the sintering unit's grate as air passes through feed and forms agglomerated pellets under the effect of high-temperature (up to 1 500 degrees Celsius) environment.

Scheduled annual maintenance is carried out by the Norilsk Nickel's contractor - Norilsknickelremont and will continue for just over one month.

Maintenance shall improve consistency of equipment operation, guarantee safety of working environment and reduce the number of unplanned shutdowns.
