Dev Bootcamp, the original immersive coding bootcamp, today announced that Tarlin Ray has been appointed as its Chief Operating Officer (COO). Tarlin will lead all facets of day-to-day operations at Dev Bootcamp as the company continues to lead and shape the evolving bootcamp industry.

“Tarlin is an experienced leader and manager with a strong background in scaling early and mid-stage ventures,” said John Polstein, CEO of Kaplan Test Prep, Dev Bootcamp’s parent company. “Tarlin’s belief in the company’s mission and his background make him uniquely suited to shepherd Dev Bootcamp as it cements its position as the premier institution for the developers of tomorrow.”

Prior to being appointed COO, Tarlin served as Vice President of Business Development and Corporate Strategy for Dev Bootcamp and Metis, a leading provider of data science skills training and Dev Bootcamp’s sister program under Kaplan’s New Economy Skills Training division. While in this role, Tarlin spearheaded a number of important partnerships for Dev Bootcamp, including the F8 Scholarship Program, in conjunction with Facebook, that provided coding scholarships for people from underrepresented communities in tech. He also secured exclusive financing options for Dev Bootcamp students through a partnership with financing platform, Skills Fund.

Before transitioning into the VP role, Tarlin helped launch Metis in 2014 as one of its four founding members during which time he gained insight and experience in the bootcamp space, honing his industry expertise by directly establishing and leading the Admissions, Marketing, and Business Development functions.

Tarlin has held key roles within Kaplan in operations, sales, and marketing, as well as leadership positions in several early-stage companies such as T.w.I.S.M., The Groove Alliance, and Virgin Charter. Tarlin also has been a committed advisor and mentor to early-stage companies through his past work with Mass Challenge, LearnLaunch education accelerator, Techstars, IBM Global Entrepreneur network, and the Rock Center for Entrepreneurship at Harvard Business School. In addition to his business experience, Tarlin’s passion for education extends to non-profit endeavors. He served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Roxbury Prep Charter School Network in Boston and on the board of the Warren Christopher Scholarship Foundation, an organization focused on giving college scholarships to underprivileged high school sophomores in Los Angeles. He holds an A.B. and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.

“I am excited to lead Dev Bootcamp and for the chance to fully lean in with the dedicated and supremely talented team,” said Tarlin. “The future is bright for Dev Bootcamp, and I am looking forward to the next phase for the company, our employees, teachers, students, and alumni.”

After nearly three years of leading the company through significant growth and transformation, Jon Stowe will step down from his position as president of Dev Bootcamp. Jon will remain an advisor to Dev Bootcamp as the company moves toward the next phase of industry leadership and growth.
