Guidance Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:GUID), the World Leader in Digital Investigations™, announced today that its EnCase family of security software products has support for point-of-sale (POS) terminals.

Keeping POS terminals safe from new exploits, including custom malware, has become an emerging business problem. Guidance Software’s new EnCase® Analytics product is designed to identify anomalies and uncover unknown threats across an enterprise, leveraging the same EnCase servlet used by the entire family of EnCase products. By capturing “state” information – such as running processes – from POS terminals running on Windows or most Linux operating systems, EnCase Analytics can help detect unauthorized activity on POS terminals, and speed the response to advanced threats that have evaded perimeter security.

“Because the EnCase servlet is lightweight, not resource intensive, and available for a multitude of operating systems, including Windows, Linux, OS X, and various Unix operating systems, we believed that it would prove to be well-suited to running on POS terminals,” said Victor Limongelli, president and chief executive officer of Guidance Software. “A major retailer has successfully deployed EnCase to thousands of POS terminals, and we expect that other retailers can likewise see success in doing so.”

EnCase Analytics is available now.
