SAN ANTONIO - July 2, 2014 - Halliburton employees presented a $43,000 check to the March of Dimes on June 27 at the organization's San Antonio Division headquarters. The funds were raised at two company events in May - a gumbo cook-off and a golf tournament.

Presenting the check to March of Dimes San Antonio Division representatives KJ Feder, division director, and Kim Gardner, community director, were Neil Schmidt, South Texas senior district manager; Kelly Adams, district accountant; and Tiffany Murray, procurement manager. Schmidt, Adams and Murray are active participants on Halliburton's San Antonio Operations volunteer team.

About 400 Halliburton employees and vendors participated in the gumbo cook-off at the company's San Antonio Operations Center, located in southern Bexar County, and about 150 participated in the golf tournament at the Riverbend Golf Club in Floresville.

"Premature birth is the number one killer of newborns; in fact, one out of eight Texas babies is born prematurely," Feder said. "Every major employer has families affected by the resulting hardships and adversities. Premature birth places a multibillion-dollar burden on business, with employers billed more than $12 billion in excess health care costs.

"You can tell that Halliburton employees truly rallied around the cause of helping families have healthy babies. They know that March of Dimes touches the life of every single baby born in the US and they support us because of our proven track record of success in saving lives over the past 76 years," Feder said. "At Halliburton giving back to the communities in which we work is a 'Core Value' of our company," Schmidt said. "To our way of thinking it is important for us to give in every way we can to a community. And we do it from our individual employees, to our teams, to our managers - all the way to the top. We believe if we are part of a community, we need to be there to help. Our employees want to participate in community activities. It is one of the highest points of what we do in our business.

"Our employees select most of the charities on which we focus our fundraising efforts. March of Dimes has been one of the top selections for the past 15-plus years. With our new San Antonio-based campus fully operational now, this year's events were way beyond anything we expected. It is truly a testimonial to Halliburton's commitment to play a major role in the communities. It was a great pleasure to see the smiles on the March of Dimes employees' faces and to hear how much this donation will help continue the battle to improve the health of babies," Schmidt said.
