HOUSTON (June 2, 2014) - In a ceremony on May 14, Mike Segura (right), operations manager for Halliburton's Northeast Area, presented the keys to a lightly used school bus that the company donated to the Western Area Career & Technology Center. Accepting on behalf of the school, which is located in Canonsburg, Pa., was Dr. Dennis J. McCarthy, WACTC Director (middle). Also participating in the ceremony was Senator Timothy Solobay (left), who contacted Halliburton when he was made aware of WACTC's need for a secondary, dependable source of transportation to get students to a variety of out-of-the-classroom learning opportunities.

"Halliburton is very pleased that this bus will help WACTC in support of their curriculum and programs," Segura said as he presented the bus to Dr. McCarthy. "It is very important to us to partner with the communities where we live and work, and this was a great opportunity where we could help WACTC and its students."

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Halliburton for their generous donation of a school bus for our students," Dr. McCarthy said. "Many times we are unable to allow students to go on field trips due to the cost of a bus. With this kind donation, our students will be able to enhance their education by physically seeing how business and industry relates to their technology. I again want to express my thanks for this kind and generous donation."

"WACTC had a problem and Halliburton stepped up to offer a solution," Senator Solobay said. "I applaud their willingness to be a good community partner. This bus will save WACTC thousands of dollars in rental costs and ensure that students have a means to travel to various sites where they can learn skills specific to their career goals."
