HAMDEN, Conn., May 18, 2015 - Hanger Clinic Vice President of Prosthetics Kevin Carroll, MS, CP, FAAOP delivered the undergraduate commencement address to students of Quinnipiac University's School of Health Sciences and School of Nursing on May 17. The university also awarded Carroll an honorary doctor of humane letters degree during the commencement ceremony.

"It was an honor and a pleasure to have Kevin Carroll receive an honorary doctoral degree from Quinnipiac University in recognition of his decades of service to individuals with limb loss," said Kimberly Hartmann, interim dean of the School of Health Sciences at Quinnipiac. "His address to the graduates inspired virtues that he himself has lived by: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and compassion. His patient stories illustrated how these virtues improved the quality and meaningfulness of the lives of many children and adults nationally and internationally. I look forward to Kevin's return to the university in July for the first Camp No Limits at Quinnipiac: a camping experience devoted to critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and compassion to help children with limb loss learn that their potential is in fact limitless."

Carroll, a world-renowned prosthetic expert, has spent more than 30 years developing artificial limbs, educating the prosthetics community, and working to improve the lives of amputees with a variety of limb losses. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists, as well as a member of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics, the British Association of Prosthetics and Orthotics, and the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers.

Located in Hamden, Connecticut, Quinnipiac University is a private, coeducational university with 6,500 undergraduates and 2,500 graduate students. According to the university's website, in recent years, nursing has become the most sought-after major at the university.

"Being asked to address the next generation of nurses, health care practitioners and biomedical scientists is an unbelievable honor," stated Carroll. "These men and women have chosen an exciting career field that will allow them to improve people's lives and be part of the rewarding process of moving health care forward. I wish them all the best."

In the process of fitting Winter the dolphin, he helped developed WintersGel, a protective prosthetic liner that is particularly beneficial for amputees with delicate skin.
