Tamarac, Fla., July 27, 2015 - Ft. Lauderdale, Florida resident Lizbeth Uzcategui recently became the first woman in the U.S. to be fit with a post-production model of the i-limb™ quantum, the newest microprocessor-controlled prosthetic hand available in the world. South Florida journalists attended Uzcategui's final fitting appointment with her Hanger Clinic Clinician Matthew Klein CPO (L), and National Hanger Clinic Upper Extremity Specialist Alistair Gibson, CPO, LPO; following are some of the resulting news stories:

About Uzcategui: Fort Lauderdale, Fla. resident Lizbeth Uzcategui, 43-years-old, was born missing her right arm below the elbow and three fingers on her left hand due to Amniotic Band Syndrome, a non-genetically linked condition that restricts blood flow in the womb and affects development. Uzcategui started wearing prosthetic devices at 3-years-old and has experimented with a variety of types of prostheses, but her options were limited due to her petite size before the extra small version of the i-limb™ quantum hand.

Uzcategui provides support and encouragement for other people who are seeking to adjust to life with limb loss through Hanger Clinic's AMPOWER program, where she is a certified peer visitor and regional coordinator. More information on AMPOWER is available here: http://www.hangerclinic.com/AMPOWER.

About the i-limb quantum: The i-limb quantum is the only upper limb prosthesis that can change grip patterns (i.e., modes for a handshake, typing on a keyboard, etc.) with a simple movement of the arm, allowing quicker and easier access to do things like drive a car, grip a coffee mug, and household chores such as folding laundry and preparing meals. The new hand also features built-in Bluetooth® connectivity that allows the hand to sync to a mobile app on a smart phone so users can make immediate adjustments.
