SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (May 28, 2017) - Harley-Davidson Factory Flat Track Racing Team rider Kenny Coolbeth Jr. won a semi-final heat aboard the Harley-Davidson XG750R competition motorcycle to earn a front-row starting position at the Harley-Davidson Springfield Mile at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, the sixth race of the 2017 American Flat Track (AFT) Twins series

Coolbeth ran as high as fifth place in the 25-lap main on the historic and very fast Springfield Mile track and was in sixth place when the race was stopped for a crash on lap 19. Coolbeth had a fastest lap of 34.582 seconds, the second-quickest lap of the race, as the Harley-Davidson Factory Flat Track team continues to find more speed from its new XG750R racing motorcycles. Because the team was forced to make a safety-related mechanical adjustment to Coolbeth's motorcycle during the break, the veteran rider was required to start from the last (15th) position when action resumed. Coolbeth moved up to finish 12th in the race.

Coolbeth, a three-time AMA Grand National champion, won at the Springfield Mile in September 2016 aboard a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Harley-Davidson Factory Flat Track Racing Team riders Jake Johnson and Brandon Robinson also qualified for the Springfield main on Harley-Davidson XG750R motorcycles. Johnson finished fifth in his semi-final heat and started the main in 10th place. Robinson started the main in 11th place after a sixth-place result in a semi-final heat. Johnson and Robinson were involved in a crash on lap 19 and did not finish the main.

The Harley-Davidson XG750R flat tracker is a competition motorcycle powered by a race-modified, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected Revolution X V-Twin engine originally engineered for the Harley-Davidson Street 750. The XG750R flat tracker motorcycle is not a production model. The Revolution X V-Twin engine is for sale through Harley-Davidson dealers today and can be modified for racing use by aspiring dealers and privateers.

The Harley-Davidson Factory Flat Track Racing Team returns to AFT action on June 3 at the Red Mile in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Harley-Davidson Factory Flat Track Racing Team is proudly partnered with Vance & Hines Motorsports.
