MELBOURNE, FL/WASHINGTON, DC, October 18, 2012 - Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has implemented its Business Intelligence (BI) Documentation and Coding dashboard at Lexington-based UK HealthCare, the clinical enterprise of the University of Kentucky and a member of Chicago-based University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC). Designed for use by coding professionals, physicians and hospital executives, the new dashboard improves the documentation process by providing meaningful comparisons to other academic medical centers (AMCs), identifying specific opportunities for improvement, and promoting physician and organizational learning.

"Harris' BI Documentation and Coding dashboard offers UK HealthCare a unique opportunity to benchmark against other consortium members with similar clinical and business objectives," said Tony Galluscio, vice president, Enterprise Solutions, Harris Healthcare Solutions. "This latest dashboard delivers the increased analytical horsepower academic medical centers need to identify opportunities for accurate coding, which leads to improved quality ratings, increased reimbursement, and enhanced physician learning."

Developed in collaboration with the Cleveland Clinic, Harris BI dashboards address multiple operational and clinical challenges to properly align the hospital staff with the strategic objectives of the organization. Harris BI dashboards cover a diverse range of disciplines, including quality performance improvement, access, cost and revenue, integrated disciplines, operation room, and special purpose (influenza, pathology, pediatrics).

"Transparent benchmarking to meaningful cohorts such as internal colleagues and other AMCs adds significant value when reviewing documentation practices with our physicians," said Julian Steele, clinical documentation manager, UK HealthCare. "The tool enables us to clearly show physician areas where they are not receiving appropriate credit for the severity of cases they are treating."

A nationally recognized leader in healthcare IT integration, Harris offers a full range of interoperability solutions, including IT infrastructure and management, clinical workflow and analytics, health information exchange, and imaging. Harris solutions improve healthcare quality, safety, efficiency, cost and outcomes by ensuring that the right information travels, with security and privacy, to the right person, at the right time, on the right device, at the point of care.
