Harris Teeter Awards $225,000 to Food Bank Partners
Company Thanks Generous Vendors Who Contributed to Fundraising Efforts

Charlotte, N.C. - May 7, 2013 - Harris Teeter announced today a $225,000 donation to its local food bank partners. Harris Teeter raised the money during its annual 'food bank' golf outing in Charlotte, N.C., attended by 56 of the Company's valued vendors.  Seventeen of the Company's food bank partners will receive a donation as a result of the funds raised.

Harris Teeter's food bank partners receiving donations from the golf tournament include:  MANNA FoodBank in Asheville, N.C.; Loaves & Fishes in Charlotte, N.C.; Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in Charlotte, N.C.; Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina in Raleigh, N.C.; Inter-Faith Food Shuttle in Raleigh, N.C.; Greensboro Urban Ministries in Greensboro, N.C.; Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina in Winston-Salem, N.C.; Maryland Food Bank in Baltimore, Md.; Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee in Nashville, Tenn.; Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia in Norfolk, Va.; Loudoun Interfaith Relief in Leesburg, Va.; Lowcountry Food Bank in Charleston, S.C.; Capital Area Food Bank in Washington, D.C.; Food Bank of Delaware in Newark, DE; Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula in Hampton, Va.; Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina in Fayetteville, N.C; and Miriam's Kitchen in Washington, D.C.

Many of Harris Teeter's food bank partners are a part of Feeding America, the national organization fighting hunger in the community through the assistance of local and national food assistance programs.  In its fiscal year 2012, Feeding America provided 3.39 billion pounds of food to people in need while expanding public awareness of the issue of hunger.

Harris Teeter would again like to thank its vendor partners who participated in the golf tournament as well as its customers who support the Company's fundraising initiatives throughout the year.  Harris Teeter hopes its donations to its food bank partners including the one announced today help make it easier for these organizations to combat food insecurity.
