Teresa Wynn Roseborough, 56, has been elected to The Hartford’s board of directors, effective April 1, 2015. Roseborough will serve on the board’s Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee and the Finance, Investment and Risk Management Committee.

“Teresa is a seasoned executive who brings significant business, regulatory, compliance, risk management and corporate governance expertise to our board,” said The Hartford’s Chairman and CEO Christopher Swift. “Her insurance background and government experience will strengthen The Hartford’s ability to innovate and grow, delivering value for shareholders.”

Roseborough currently serves as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of The Home Depot. Previously, she held several legal positions at MetLife, including senior chief counsel and deputy general counsel. Prior to joining MetLife, Roseborough was a partner with the law firm Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP and a deputy assistant attorney general for the U.S. Department of Justice. She also served as a law clerk for Justice John Paul Stevens of the U.S. Supreme Court.

She was named one of 25 Influential Black Women in Business by The Network Journal and as one of America’s top black attorneys by Black Enterprise. Roseborough’s civic involvements include serving as a public member of the Administrative Conference of the U.S., a member of the boards of directors of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, the American Arbitration Association and the Home Depot Foundation. She is also a member of the Board of Overseers of the RAND Corporation Institute for Civil Justice and a member of the Board of Visitors of Emory University, as well as a member of the boards of trustees of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and the Supreme Court Historical Society.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia, a master’s degree in education from Boston University, and a juris doctor with high honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
