Earlier this week, 16 would-be Modern Apprentices attended a one day assessment at the company's Kirkcaldy factory where some 280 people are employed, manufacturing furniture and fittings for the retail, banking, education and healthcare sectors.
The company will accept up to 15 of the candidates who will undertake 13 weeks paid work experience at the factory. Thereafter, up to seven of them will be offered full Modern Apprenticeships in carpentry & joinery, fabrication & welding and engineering.
This intake marks the third year of the "Havelock Academy", established to identify and develop talent in Fife amongst young people and those wishing to retrain.
To date, the Havelock Academy has brought some 23 young people into the business, all of whom are progressing well and making a significant contribution in roles as diverse as: HR, sales and marketing, finance, carpentry & joinery, wood machining and fabrication & welding.
Havelock's Head of HR, Grace Emerton, comments:
"The fact that all of the young people who have joined us since we set up The Academy are still with us and are thriving, underlines the robustness of the selection process that we have introduced with help from Fife Job Contract, Skills Development Scotland and Fife College.
This is the best measure of the Academy's success but we have also been delighted to have received awards such as Skills Development Scotland's Youth Employer of the Month and one of our Construction Ambassadors being named as Apprentice Ambassador of the Year 2014."
