Excellent fishing

HB Grandi's fresher trawlers have been fishing very well recently, both off the Westfjords and on their home grounds off Reykjanes. As an example, Ásbjörn docked on Monday night with 130 tonnes after only four days at sea.

'We started the trip on the Hali grounds. That's where we had some luck on saithe and the fIshing on cod was also very good. This was all quality fish, fine medium-sized saithe and excellent cod,' said Ásbjörn's skipper Friðleifur Einarsson. He added that from the Westfjords grounds they shifted south to the Mountains, the HB Grandi fleet's traditional home grounds.

'We're practically born and bred on the Mountains and I've been fishing there since I first went to sea. The golden redfish stock looks to be in good shape and it didn't take us long to get what we needed to make it a full trip,' he said, commenting that it's not going to be long before he and his crew switch over to the new Engey.

'We're hoping the work on the fishroom system and the catch handling deck will be finished in the next few days. After that all we need to do is get the fishing gear on board to be ready for sea,' Friðleifur Einarsson said.
