Viðey hits the Atlantic

HB Grandi's new trawler Viðey is making steady progress on its delivery trip to Iceland and is now out into the Atlantic after crossing the Aegean and Mediterranean seas.

According to marine superintendent Thórarinn Sigurbjörnsson who has overseen the construction of all of HB Grandi's new vessels at the Celiktrans yard in Turkey, they are due to touch land in Gibraltar tonight.

'This is where Denni from Brimrún, technical wizard and all-round good guy, will be leaving us,' he said in an email home.
'Denni has been with us to hold our hands regarding anything technical, including ensuring that we stay in contact with the rest of the world. His sense of humour has been a bonus during the trip so far.'

This evening Viðey was in a position south-west of the Spanish port of Cadiz with the second stage of the voyage to its home port in Reykjavík ahead. Viðey is scheduled to dock on December 21st and will be formally named at a reception in Reykjavík the following day.
