HEIJMANS : Meander Medical Centre and Heijmans sign settlement agreement

's-Hertogenbosch - Meander Medical Centre's new hospital in Amersfoort is to be
constructed by Heijmans Non-residential Building and Heijmans' subsidiary
Burgers Ergon technical services. The settlement agreement was signed on
Wednesday 13 January between Meander Medical Centre and Heijmans. The contract
price is 175 million euros.
A consortium of Rabobank, ING and BNG is prepared to finance the new
construction. Meander Medical Centre is still in discussion with the banks on
the final conditions. The new Meander Medical Centre hospital on Maatweg
replaces the two existing locations, Amersfoort Lichtenberg and Amersfoort
Elisabeth. Initial construction is expected to begin in mid-2010. Delivery is
planned for mid-2013.
The new hospital
The new hospital will enable Meander Medical Centre to receive its patients and
visitors in a pleasant and customer-friendly environment. In many places
patients and visitors will have a view over the surrounding greenery and the
River Eem. The hospital has also been designed in such a way that patients and
visitors will be able to find their way easily. It comprises a number of
sections, accommodating nursing and research departments, operating theatres, a
psychiatric centre and a parking garage. The buildings are linked through an
extensive covered public area. The total floor area of the new Meander Medical
Centre is 113,000m2 (GFA), including the parking layer under the building. With
this new construction the Meander Medical Centre gains still further
opportunities to expand its status as a leading expert clinical training
hospital.
Heijmans
The design was produced by Atelier PRO architects from The Hague. The
constructional aspects will be carried out by Heijmans Non-residential Building.
The settlement agreement also incorporates the order for realising the
electrical and mechanical systems by Heijmans' subsidiary Burgers Ergon
technical services. This makes this project an excellent example of the
integrated approach Heijmans offers its clients.
