More than 1,400 young scientists at the 1st PanHellenic Contest of Educational Robotics

- Record in participations with OTE and COSMOTE as sponsors

Athens, April 6th 2015

More than 1,400 young scientists from all over Greece participated in the 1st PanHellenic Contest of Educational Robotics for Primary School children, organized by the NGO WRO Hellas with the support of ΟΤΕ and COSMOTE.

On the topic of 'My City' more than 450 teams from all over Greece created and presented an integrated robotic construction, developing their scientific skills via STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.

The first prize at the contest was awarded to the 10th Primary School of the Kallithea Municipality (Athens) that created a sorting plant for recyclable materials. The second prize went to the 3rd Full-Day Primary School of the Nea Ionia Municipality (Athens) that designed a cable-car and the observatory of Mount Penteli, associated with the myth of Theseus and Ariadne. The third price was awarded to the 1st Primary School of Souda (Municipality of Chania, Crete) that constructed an escalating ramp. Each winning team participant received high-technology gifts from OTE and COSMOTE.

'At OTE Group we utilize the potential of technology and offer children access to essential knowledge and education, so as to develop their digital skills. Nowadays, these constitute the necessary skillset for their professional and personal development', stated Mr. George Athanasopoulos, the Chief Officer of Operations and Information Technology Systems OTE Group, on the occasion of the finals.

At the same time, more than 1,150 educators and parents received information and education regarding robotics. By utilizing an educational kit provided to the teams with the support of ΟΤΕ and COSMOTE, the latter participated for free at especially designed educational seminars for the construction and programming of robotic models.
