Doris Russi Schurter proposed as chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Helvetia

The Helvetia Board of Directors will propose Doris Russi Schurter as the new chairwoman of the Board of Directors at the ordinary Shareholders' Meeting on 20 April 2018. Beat Fellmann, Dr Thomas Schmuckli and Regula Wallimann are running as new members of the Board of Directors. Dr Patrik Gisel will not stand for re-election.

The Board of Directors of Helvetia Holding will propose to the ordinary Shareholders' Meeting on 20 April 2018 to elect Doris Russi Schurter as the new chairwoman of the Board of Directors. Doris Russi Schurter has been a member of the Board of Directors of Helvetia Holding since 2008 and has served as ad interim chairwoman since December 2017. She is currently also serving as chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Patria Genossenschaft, but will resign from this role as at 23 March 2018. Doris Russi Schurter holds a law degree and serves on multiple boards of directors and boards of trustees. She is chairwoman of the boards of directors of Luzerner Kantonalbank and LZ Medien Holding and a member of the board of directors of Swiss International Air Lines.

"Doris Russi Schurter is very familiar with Helvetia and has made an important contribution to the development of our company as its long-standing vice-chairwoman. Helvetia has therefore found an experienced individual from among its own ranks who - together with the Board of Directors, CEO Dr Philipp Gmür and the entire Executive Management - will continue to pursue a successful path for Helvetia and the implementation of our helvetia 20.20 strategy", explains Dr Hans Künzle, vice-chairman of the Board of Directors.

Three new candidates

In addition, the Board of Directors will propose Beat Fellmann, Dr Thomas Schmuckli and Regula Wallimann to the Shareholders' Meeting as new members of the Board of Directors. Beat Fellmann serves as CFO and Head of the Corporate Centre of Implenia. Beat Fellmann, 53, studied at the University of St.Gallen and is an auditor with many years of management experience in the financial sector.

Dr Thomas Schmuckli serves as chairman of the board of directors of Bossard Holding and of Credit Suisse Funds AG plus he is a member of the boards of directors of Patria Genossenschaft and Hans Oetiker Holding. Dr Thomas Schmuckli, 54, has a degree in law and has held multiple management functions as General Counsel for the Credit Suisse Group.

Regula Wallimann is a member of the boards of directors of Straumann and national grid company Swissgrid. Regula Wallimann, 50, is an auditor and previously worked at KPMG, where she spent 14 years as Global Lead Partner responsible for large, international, listed industrial companies. She has extensive knowledge in the areas of multinational corporate auditing, international accounting, financial consulting and corporate governance. She has served as a member of the Supervisory Board of the Institute of Accounting, Control and Auditing (ACA HSG) of the University of St.Gallen for eight years.

"With Beat Fellmann, Dr Thomas Schmuckli and Regula Wallimann, we are gaining outstanding candidates with extensive management experience in national and international companies and valuable specialist expertise for our Board of Directors", affirms Doris Russi Schurter, interim chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Helvetia.

Dr Patrik Gisel will not stand for re-election

Dr Patrik Gisel, CEO of Raiffeisen, has informed the Board of Directors that he will no longer be available to the ordinary Shareholders' Meeting for re-election. This is in light of the fact that Raiffeisen sold its equity stake in Helvetia Holding last September and left the shareholder pool with Patria Genossenschaft. The long-standing and successful business relationship between Helvetia and Raiffeisen will not be affected by Dr Patrik Gisel's departure from the Board of Directors. The Raiffeisen banks will continue to distribute Helvetia's products and services. "On behalf of the entire company, I would like to thank Dr Patrik Gisel for his essential contribution to the positive development of Helvetia in recent years", says Doris Russi Schurter.
