• Kicking the fiscal year off with Discover, the first quarter was marked by a number of new software-defined, services-led solutions
  • HPE also appointed Antonio Neri, a 23-year veteran of the company, as the new CEO

The first quarter of 2018 saw the introduction of new products, new services and a new CEO

At HPE, we had a strong start to fiscal year 2018. As we do every year, we kicked the year off with our Discover customer event in Madrid in early December. This year, we announced a number of new software-defined, services-led solutions that are changing the way IT is purchased, consumed and managed. We also announced some incredible partnerships and new customer wins. And, as of February 1, we have a new CEO - 23-year veteran Antonio Neri.

  1. We're Bringing Artificial Intelligence to the Data Center

In Q1, we extended HPE Infosight across our 3PAR portfolio. HPE Infosight is a predictive analytics platform that uses software-defined intelligence to predict and prevent infrastructure problems before they happen. This product, which came to HPE with Nimble, is a game changer for our storage business and is a major step on the journey to an autonomous data center.

  1. We're Leading the Way with Flexible, Pay-Per-Use IT Consumption Models

Also at Discover, HPE launched a new suite of 'pay-per-use' IT solutions available for top customer workloads. HPE GreenLake simplifies the customer experience by providing choice and flexibility in where workloads live and how customers consume them. Initial solutions include big data, backup, open database, SAP HANA, and edge computing.

  1. We Announced the Industry's First Multi-Cloud Management Solution for Public & On-Premises Clouds and Software-Defined Infrastructure

At Discover, HPE announced HPE OneSphere, the industry's first multi-cloud management solution that provides a unified experience across public clouds, on-premises private clouds and software-defined infrastructure. Through its SaaS portal, HPE OneSphere provides customers access to a pool of IT resources that spans the public cloud services they subscribe to, as well as on-premises environments, and is specifically designed for IT operations, developers, and business executives seeking to build clouds, deploy applications, and gain insights faster.

  1. We're Partnering with Stephen Hawking's COSMOS Research Group

In November, we announced a collaboration with the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge to accelerate new discoveries in the mathematical sciences. This includes partnering with Stephen Hawking's Centre for Theoretical Cosmology (COSMOS) to understand the origins and structure of the universe. Leveraging the HPE Superdome Flex in-memory computing platform, the COSMOS group will search for clues hiding in massive data sets-spanning 14 billion years of information-that could unlock the secrets of the early universe and black holes.

  1. We Transitioned to a New CEO

Last but not least, on February 1st, Antonio Neri became HPE's CEO. After six and a half years as CEO, Meg Whitman announced in November that this was the right time to transition to new leadership. HPE's board unanimously agreed with her that 23-year veteran Antonio Neri was the right person to lead HPE and deliver on the vision the company laid out. You can see how Antonio feels about his 'dream job' here.
