STAMFORD, Conn., May 15, 2018 - Hexcel will be exhibiting again this year at the SAMPE Long Beach conference May 22-23 in Long Beach, California (Booth N4) to promote its latest technologies and innovations in composites. Specialists from Hexcel's carbon fibers, reinforcements, prepregs, honeycomb and engineered core groups will be available to speak with attendees about Hexcel's wide variety of products and offerings.

Among Hexcel's newest technologies on display will be its HexAM™ additive manufacturing technology that combines high performance PEKK thermoplastics with carbon fiber to produce flight-ready 3D printed HexPEKK™ parts. Hexcel acquired this technology from Oxford Performance Materials in December 2017. HexPEKK™ structures offer significant weight, cost and time-to-market reductions, replacing traditional cast or machined metallic parts in highly demanding aerospace, satellite and defense applications.

Hexcel will also be presenting its HexShield™ thermal management system that provides high temperature resistance in aircraft engine nacelles. By inserting a thermally resistant material into honeycomb cells, Hexcel provides a core product with unique heat-shielding capabilities that allows for the potential re-use of material after a fire event.

The composites industry continues to examine new thermoplastic formulations to speed up production times while decreasing weight and lowering costs. Hexcel's unsized HexTow® carbon fibers provide excellent bonding interfacial properties with thermoplastic matrices. Earlier this year, Hexcel entered into a strategic alliance with Arkema to continue the development of advanced thermoplastics for aerospace applications.

Hexcel continues to promote its PrimeTex® woven carbon fabrics that decrease areal weight while providing a smooth, closed weave and uniform cosmetic appearance. PrimeTex® fabrics are more uniform as the filaments in each tow are spread out creating a thinner and more closely woven fabric that provides better mechanicals and less porosity in a composite laminate.

The HexPly® M77 quick-cure prepreg family continues to grow within the industrial industry. The latest addition, HexPly® M77HF prepreg, will be showcased at SAMPE in use in a lightweight HED bicycle wheel. HexPly® M77HF prepreg expands the range of fast reactivity, low tack, high toughness and long out life HexPly® M77 resins to now include a material specifically suited for processing parameters that need additional resin flow for surface quality, compaction or low voids.
