CII-HUL Initiative on Food Safety Sciences (CHIFSS), a partnership initiative between Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), joined hands with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) with the purpose of driving activities related to science based food safety in the country. The partnership aims to further strengthen protection for consumers and enable a science based innovation environment for the industry.

The formal launch of the CII-HUL Initiative on Food Safety Sciences was held on 24 June 2016 in New Delhi. Mr Pawan Agarwal, Chief Executive Officer, FSSAI signed an MOU with CHIFSS, represented by Mr Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII and Mr Sanjiv Mehta, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, HUL.

Speaking on the partnership, Sanjiv Mehta said, 'We are delighted to see CHIFSS fructify into a reality. The pioneering partnership between CII, HUL and FSSAI will further strengthen industry-government collaboration to promote science based food safety which stimulates innovation while ensuring consumer safety.'

The first project announced is the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) for ice cream, which aims to help all ice cream manufacturers in building safety by design in their operations.
