Taiwan-based manufacturing giant Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. has chosen Mount Pleasant in Wisconsin'sRacine County as the site of a US$10 billion production plant in the United States, the Milwaukee Business Journal reported Wednesday.
The facility will consist of a multi-billion-dollar thin-film transistor liquid crystal display plant, a facility to back-end package LCD modules, a facility for molding and tool-and-die processes, and an assembly operation to produce end-device units, the weekly newspaper said.
On July 26, Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou, accompanied by U.S. President Donald Trump and other top U.S. officials, announced that the company plans to invest US$10 billion to build an advanced flat panel plant in Wisconsin to roll out 8K ultra high-definition and advanced 5G operations as a foundation for future industrial development.
Gou and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the investment deal a day later.
Last month, the Wisconsin Assembly approved a US$3 billion incentive package for the massive investment plan, which is expected to create up to 13,000 jobs, with an estimated average salary of US$53,875 per employee, over a period of up to six years.
