- Securities Market

  • Market capitalisation was $24.8 trillion at the end of 2016, representing a year-on-year increase of 0.4 per cent.

  • The Hang Seng Index ended 2016 at 22000.56, representing a year-on-year increase of 0.4 per cent.

  • The average daily turnover in 2016 was $66.9 billion, a decrease of 37 per cent when compared with $105.6 billion in 2015.

  • There were 126* newly listed companies in 2016, a decrease of 9 per cent when compared with the 138* in 2015.

  • Funds raised through IPOs in 2016 was $194.8 billion, a decrease of 26 per cent when compared with $263.1 billion in 2015.

- Derivatives Market

  • The average daily turnover of futures and options in 2016 was 761,744 contracts, a decrease of 1 per cent when compared with the 768,520 contracts in 2015.

  • The average daily turnover of equity index futures in 2016 was 337,247 contracts, an increase of 15 per cent when compared with the 293,178 contracts in 2015.

  • The average daily turnover of equity index options in 2016 was 123,354 contracts, an increase of 27 per cent when compared with the 96,756 contracts in 2015.

  • The average daily turnover of RMB Currency Futures in2016 was 2,206 contracts, an increase of 108 per cent when compared with the 1,062 contracts in 2015.

  • HSCEI Dividend Point Index Futures, H-shares Index Options and RMB Currency Futures - USD/CNH Futures reached a record high of open interest of 184,626 contracts (13 December), 3,276,956 contracts (28 December) and 45,635 contracts (30 December) respectively.
