Hongkong Land celebrates the launch of Reunion Exhibition

Master artists reunite in Central after thirty-two years

HONG KONG, 24th October 2017 - Hongkong Land today launched Reunion, an art exhibition featuring a collection of 26 remarkable pieces by nine renowned Chinese contemporary master artists, that runs from now until 16th November 2017 at The Rotunda, Exchange Square, in Central.

The nine masters - Cheung Yee, Chu Hing-wah, Chu Hon-sun, Ju Ming, Aries Lee, Leung Kui-ting, Li Ki-kwok, Rosanna Li and Mak Yee-fun - their remarkable masterpieces were brought back together more than three decades after Exchange Square's inaugural art show, "The Sculpture Show", held at The Rotunda to commemorate the development's official opening in 1985.

"For 128 years, Hongkong Land has been a dedicated patron of the arts," said Mr Robert Wong, Chief Executive of Hongkong Land. "It is our pleasure to have nine of the eminent artists who participated in the inaugural exhibition at The Rotunda, Exchange Square, to show their artworks together once again to celebrate our dedication to supporting Chinese artists in the region as early as in 1980s. As always, Hongkong Land will continue our long-term mission of promoting the arts, cultivating talents and engaging with the community."

Reunion showcases a broad range of sculptures of different forms and mediums, from bronze and wood to porcelain and marble. The art pieces are created around different themes that vary from traditional Chinese culture to primitive culture, and from the vagaries of life to the subtleties of human bonds and more. These works embody the masters' dedication to art and demonstrate high levels of artistic skills.

  • Cheung Yee is a pioneer who helped introduce modern ideas into Chinese sculpture. His Crab #4 - two cubic feet in size with two chelae, four claws, a pan-like shell and four hooks - is an abstract form that embodies a sense of pride and aggressiveness.

  • Chu Hing-wah expresses the absolute loneliness of the elderly through his installation Sitting in the Park All Day and his painting Their Only Pose for Taking Photos.

  • In his work Pavilion, Chu Hon-sun illustrates his altered concept of distinct individual components serving together as a unified whole.

  • Among the works encompassed within Ju Ming's Living World Series, the twisted metal sculptures stand out the most for their remarkably lifelike sculptural qualities. Ju captures the emotions and spirit of people from all walks of life by twisting, pressing and binding metal sheets into structures of varying sizes and poses.

  • Through his works Mars Meets Venus and Mingle of Shapes, Aries Lee hopes to bring positive energy to audiences and inspire them to pursue an ideal world.

  • Leung kui-ting's Words from the Stones carries the essence of Chinese literati art and cultivation.

  • Li Ki-kwok presents the struggle between man and Beast through an unpredictable exploration of a heavy hardwood.

  • Rosanna Li's robust ceramic figurines Congee, Rice Noodles, Noodles and Rice

reflect her fantasy of merging acrobatic art with local café elements.

  • Mak yee-fun's work is experimental, poetic and painterly. Through The Seasons, she aims to create a sacred, shifting, mystical space where the mind can pause and wonder at the beauty of nature.
