SPRINGFIELD, Ill., April 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Forbes Magazine has named Horace Mann Educators (NYSE: HMN) one of America's 50 Most Trustworthy Financial Companies in 2014 after naming them to the Forbes Top 100 Most Trustworthy Companies in 2013.

"Trustworthy is a term that resonates with Horace Mann, and that clearly describes the way we run this company," says Marita Zuraitis, Horace Mann's President and CEO. "At Horace Mann, we know the importance of doing the right thing. Whether presenting information for our shareholders, supporting our agents and employees or being there for our policyholders when they need us, we strive to always deserve their trust. And we never take it for granted."

The Top 50 Most Trustworthy Financial Companies was established as a result of financial services companies beginning to dominate the Top 100 Trustworthy list. Like the Top 100 list, the Top 50 Financial Company list is divided by market capitalization. Horace Mann moved from the small cap to the mid cap category for 2014 and continues to rank well among peer companies.

Horace Mann was named to this newly established Forbes list based on findings by GMI Rankings, a company that assessed the company's performance credibility based on a system designed to identify practices that have historically had a high correlation with increasing shareholder risk. In creating its ranking, GMI assigned a risk score for accounting and governance. Horace Mann received an AGR score in the last four quarters of 85, and it has a 92 for the current quarter.
