Horizon North: A Company with Northern Roots

At Horizon North, we are incredibly proud of our roots.

Those roots lay in a region we call 'the North.' It's the part of Canada beyond the 60th parallel north, including the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

In 2006, two public companies with operations in the North merged and established the initial foundation for our organization. Today, we continue to seek opportunities to provide services and build relationships in this region that has deeply influenced us. In all the ways we portray ourselves, the North plays a vital part. It's in our name, it's in our work, and it's in our most prominent symbol, our logo.

Our Logo

Horizon North's logo incorporates five elements that are integral to the cycle and nature of life in the Arctic:

• The 24 hours of darkness of the winter solstice in December
• The 24 hours of daylight of the summer solstice in June
• The sun
• The water
• The horizon, where the land and the sky appear to meet

Together, these pieces form a memorable representation of the beginning of our company, and the continued importance of a region where our expertise thrives.

Aboriginal Focus

Our commitment to communities that call the North home is an essential factor in our success in the region. We are dedicated to building genuine, lasting relationships with the region's Aboriginal communities, and have been doing so since our inception.

'Canada's North is a uniquely beautiful part of our Country, but to live or work there you need to be very adaptive to the harsh extremes that comes with it. The People from the North have a strong character and a special bond to their land,' says Pat Hammerschmidt, Vice President, Aboriginal and Community Relations for Horizon North.

Our five strategic Aboriginal partnerships in the North allow us to involve locals in projects that provide economic and employment benefits, with our Work North initiative aiming to hire staff from within these communities. Wherever we do our work, we meet with the people affected to encourage discussion and information exchange on opportunities and community impact.

Our history and project success in the North has given us the experience required to work in one of the world's most unique areas. Having worked in the remote locations, varied terrains and diverse communities of the region, we are uniquely positioned to handle the opportunities and challenges it presents. This has not only made us ideal for business there, but it has prepared us for business everywhere.
