HOYA Makes Additional Medical Device Venture Investment in InnFocus, Inc., a Glaucoma Device Company

HOYA Group announced today that it has participated in a late-stage venture investment in InnFocus, Inc., a Miami-based medical device company developing the InnFocus MicroShunt(TM) for the treatment of open angle glaucoma. This investment follows a strategic relationship established between the two companies in July 2013.

The MicroShunt(TM) is a small tube (less than 1cm in length) used to lower intraocular pressure in patients with open angle glaucoma. It is made of a soft biocompatible material that minimizes damage to tissue and is designed to significantly reduce operation time. InnFocus plans to enter the final phase of clinical trials for the MicroShuntR system to prove it is a safe and effective alternative for the surgical treatment of glaucoma.
'HOYA is very pleased to make this additional investment in InnFocus to further expand our experience and presence in the area of ophthalmology -- we certainly look forward to continuing this strategic relationship with InnFocus as they progress this important device for the potential treatment of glaucoma', said Augustine Yee, Executive Officer, Chief Legal Officer and Head of Corporate Development and Affairs at HOYA Corporation.
