Previously, Stoss spent four years (2005-2009) as Chief of Staff to three former Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) administrators during the period when CMS launched the Medicare Prescription Drug Program (PDP), and significantly expanded the Medicare Advantage (MA) program. Humana has nearly 6.7 million members enrolled in its Medicare PDP and MA plans.

“Doug’s knowledge of Washington, health care and business operations, coupled with his ability to connect with people, will strengthen Humana’s efforts to make it easy for people to achieve their best health,” said Heidi Margulis, Humana’s Senior Vice President of Public Affairs. Stoss will report to Margulis.

Prior to his tenure at CMS, Stoss served in progressively responsible leadership positions for former U.S. Rep. John Shadegg (R-Arizona), including Chief of Staff. He also served as a legislative aide to U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine). Stoss began his career in regional sales for Ashland Chemical Co. in Arizona.

Stoss is starting with Humana this week. He has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Arizona.
