Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), one of the nation’s leading health and well-being companies, has expanded its Medicare Advantage network participation agreement with Jefferson Health, providing enhanced health care access to physicians, hospitals and specialists for some 9,000 Humana Medicare Advantage members in Greater Philadelphia.

The contract will become effective Jan. 1, 2017 and adds Aria Health and Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital (ROSH) to the Humana-Jefferson Health agreement. The agreement provides expanded network access to Humana Medicare Advantage members in HMO, PPO and Network Private Fee-for-Service plans.

In an effort to increase access to high quality care to patients in a cost-effective, clinically appropriate setting, Jefferson Health in July of this year acquired a controlling interest in Rothman Orthopaedic in Bensalem, Pa. The addition marked Jefferson Health’s ninth hospital in the region, and its first specialty hospital.

Also in July, Jefferson Health completed its integration with Aria Health, and the two regional health care providers have now combined as part of Jefferson Health.

“By expanding Jefferson Health’s participation with Humana to include Aria Health and ROSH, we have ensured that Humana’s Medicare Advantage members will have access to Jefferson Health’s care across our health system and in their communities,” said Jefferson Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anne Docimo.

The new Humana-Jefferson Health agreement adds Aria’s three acute care hospitals and more than 300 physicians in Northeast Philadelphia and Bucks County, as well as ROSH, an orthopedic specialty hospital in Bucks County.

“Our new, expanded network agreement with Jefferson Health will give our Medicare members in and around Greater Philadelphia greater access in 2017 to the health care facilities, physicians and specialty services provided by Jefferson Health, Aria and ROSH,” said Humana East Region Medicare Vice President Eric Bohannon.
