HUNTINGTON BANK RECOGNIZED FOR COMMODITIES TRADING EXCELLENCE

COLUMBUS, Ohio, June XX, 2015 - Huntington Bank has won the 'Newcomer of the Year' Award recently presented by the magazine Energy Risk at the 19th Annual Energy Risk Summit USA in Houston, Texas. The award represents industrywide recognition from risk management peers and customers for unprecedented first-year growth in commodities trading.
"We are delighted to be recognized by Energy Risk and those customers who the magazine interviewed to select an award winner," said Huntington Commodities Managing Director Darrell Fletcher. "We are deeply committed to helping customers through our commodities trading capabilities as well as aiding them in managing financial risk."
Huntington experienced strong commodities revenue and national trading growth in 2014. It grew its customer trading base and trade-ready customer base by 150 percent and 70 percent respectively during the year, with the introduction of 19 commodities including crude oil, fuels, natural gas and metals.
Strong growth across Huntington's commercial division in recent years, combined with the ongoing success of its foreign exchange and interest rate derivative businesses, prompted the build out of the commodities desk within the bank's capital markets group in 2013. The desk, which trades solely on the basis of client demand and does not warehouse risk in anticipation of client demand, has stringent risk limits and trades many of its positions directly in the interdealer market or via futures exchanges.
The Energy Risk Awards recognize excellence across the global commodities market. Winners were selected by editorial choice following a detailed application process, and company and customer interviews from February to May 2015.
