Two firsts in content digitisation!

i2S DigiBook will be presenting two firsts at the I.F.L.A

During this event, i2S's high added value digital scanners division will reveal:

- A world first: DivvaLib, new generation digital library for public or private heritage resources,

- a new version of the software for the e-Scan, a self-service book scanner.

The 76th edition of the annual I.F.L.A conference1 that shall be held from 11 to 14 August at

Göteborg in Sweden, shall be rich in events for i2S (present at booth C-425)!

Indeed, the presentation of DivvaLib, the first major building block in the POLINUM R&D

platform, along with the new version of the e-Scan software, shall punctuate the French group's news during the 4-day conference.

World 1st: DivvaLib

DivvaLib is an innovative software solution aimed at all heritage resource managers wishing to manage their digital library with ease. In parallel, these managers can benefit from the latest content distribution, sharing and enhancement technologies, whether access is open to the general public, reserved or internal.

This solution can be adapted to all media types (books, images, video, sound), whether in small or medium collections, or large-size libraries (> 100,000 documents).

Furthermore, DivvaLib combines, within a single tool, modern clear and intuitive interfaces, along with new features derived from the latest Internet technologies (collaborative, semantic, etc.). It includes the Exalead search engine, one of the most powerful on the market and whose collection exploration modes offer dynamic bouncing from one resource to another for an enriched user experience.

DivvaLib is sold in hosted mode (SaaS), thus offering numerous customer advantages in terms of cost management, ease of roll-out, upgrade, service quality commitment and increased availability for resource organisation and enhancement. Furthermore, with a cost proportional to collection size, this model allows all libraries, no matter their size, to benefit from the same set of advanced features.

Finally, DivvaLib is the first building block in the POLINUM collaborative research and development platform, allowing the creation of complete and modular digitisation chains. DivvaLib is an essential link in this chain as it serves to enhance industrial and informational heritage resources. Through POLINUM, DivvaLib thus benefits directly from the latest innovations in terms of automatic metadata enrichment, advanced roaming features, ontology creation and other advances.

The official launch shall take place in France at the end of 2010, followed by an international launch in early 2011.

New version of the e-Scan software

One year after its commercial launch, i2S has enriched the software solution for its self- service book scanner with a host of new features. Customers from the teaching, heritage, administration and corporate fields can thus benefit from the following improvements:

- The Man-Machine Interface is clearer and easier to use, for optimised adaptation to the self-service model. Users are guided step-by-step through the digitisation process; there is now, for example a countdown timer indicating the precise moment of exposure, function shortcuts to facilitate digitisation configuration, a new touch "cover flow" (preview of scanned images), or zoom features.

- This new version offers a broad range of file output formats: email-authorised multi-page PDF, automatic file splitting, user-configurable size limit for automatic splitting, on-the-fly PDF format compression. Furthermore, a management tool, useful in the case of paying digitisation operations, allows customers to generate statistical data and to assess the efficiency of their investment.

- Faced with an entirely self-service use and integration into customers' IT networks, the e-Scan's security and stability have been reinforced. For this reason, it can now operate in conjunction with an antivirus and basic operation is now provided from a user account (no longer from the administrator's account only).

The new version of the e-Scan software, available in 14 languages, shall be available in

September 2010 from i2S DigiBook's distribution network.

Photos of the e-Scan, along with screenshots of its software, are available by simple request from i2s contact.
