• Global benchmark for measuring corporate contribution towards sustainable development
  • The company is the only European electrical utility to have been selected in the 15 editions of the DJSI, a fact that ratifies its firm commitment towards sustainability

For yet another year, IBERDROLA has been nominated for the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) 2014, which has become the main international benchmark for measuring how companies contribute towards sustainable development.

On the basis of an effective strategy that makes sustainability one of the pillars underpinning its operations and with an overall score of 86 points, the company continues to strengthen its position at the forefront of its sector in this new review of the ranking announced today.

The DJSI has acknowledged the Group for its policies, which place the focus on managing customer relations, developing human capital, combating climate change, protecting biodiversity, engaging stakeholders and promoting innovation and eco-efficiency.

The company has also once again been ranked among the eight most sustainable electric utilities in the world because of its strategic approach based on international growth and the development of renewable energies, a sector in which it is now the leader, with an installed capacity of over 14,100 MW.

It should be highlighted that IBERDROLA is the only European electrical utility to have been included in all 15 editions of the DJSI. This proves its firm commitment towards sustainability and the effectiveness of its strategy in responding to the main economic, environmental and social challenges facing energy policy in the domestic and international spheres.

Commitment to sustainability

The Board of Directors of IBERDROLA approved its Sustainability Policy in December of last year, thereby ratifying and reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development in all of its operations.  This means that the company has integrated the economic, social and environmental aspects of sustainability into all of its activities in the energy sector.

The energy sector is currently poised for change. The IBERDROLA Group wishes to lead this transformation, while offering increasingly competitive energy products with the lowest possible environmental impact and guaranteeing a reliable supply to its customers.

The company is therefore continuing with its firm commitment to the use of the most environmentally-friendly technology for generating electricity, in a bid to become one of the companies with the lowest CO2 emissions in the electricity sector.
