2014FY Meisei awarded an order of 10,000PCS GPS radiosonde "iMS-100" from Turkey ~ First GPS radiosonde "iMS-100" orders from overseas ~

February 16, 2015

Tokyo, February 12, 2015 - MEISEI ELECTRIC CO. LTD.,(hereinafter called Meisei, President: Kiyoshi Ishii, Head Office: Isesaki, Gunma, Japan) a subsidiary of IHI, was awarded an order of 10,000PCS GPS radiosonde "iMS-100" for upper-air observation from Turkish State Meteorological Service, Ministry of Forest and Water Affairs. This order is the first overseas order of "iMS-100" which completed its development last year. Meisei will install 10 ground stations in Turkey, and plans to deliver the radiosondes from July 2015.

"iMS-100" is the world's smallest and lightest, with high-accuracy measurement radiosonde. Due to its size and weight, operational cost is expected to decrease maximum 30 percent compared to previous models. In addition, the newly developed humidity sensor and improvements made on the mounting method of the temperature sensor allows "iMS-100" high accuracy measurement on temperature and humidity.

Data of upper atmosphere obtained plays an important role for such social needs as weather forecasting and climate monitoring. Until now, meteorological agencies collaboratively launched radiosondes twice a day at 850 locations around the world. However, due to various circumstances including budgetary restrictions, approximately 200 stations especially in Africa and South America have stopped the observation.

Given that the importance of world-wide observation is increasing as the climate change becomes a serious issue, Meisei will actively expand overseas sales of "iMS-100" and will continue to contribute to the meteorological observations of the world.
