July 11, 2014

IHI has decided to participate in the GE9X engine program for Boeing 777X being developed by GE as a partner. The GE9X engine will be designed for application on Boeing 777X and is the successor engine to GE90 powering Boeing 777. IHI will be responsible mainly for the design and manufacturing of the low-pressure turbine parts.

Since 1990s, IHI has been a partner for GE's commercial aircraft engine program such as GE90 (Boeing 777), CF34 (Regional Jet) , GEnx (Boeing 787) and Passport 20 (Business Jet) .

The GE9X engine will be in the 100,000-pound thrust class with a 10 percent improvement in fuel burn over today's GE90.
