Pablo Isla, Chairman and CEO of Inditex, has met in Beijing with the Mayor of China's capital city, Wang Ashun, where he took the opportunity to discuss the opportunities for expanding Inditex's commercial presence in this city.

The Inditex Group currently operates 40 stores representing several of its chains in Beijing, whose administrative area is home to 17 million people.

Among the topics discussed, Inditex's top executive emphasised the importance of implementing the Group's eco-efficient store model, which delivers energy consumption and associated emission savings of over 30% compared to conventional stores. Inditex's green stores are kitted out with the latest lighting, climate control and water consumption systems and all the materials used (flooring, wood, paper, plastics, etc.) in them are certified and fully recyclable.

Inditex opened its first store in Beijing in 2007. Of the Group's 40 establishments in the Chinese capital (the last of which opened just a few weeks ago), 16 are Zara stores. The other chains to have established a foothold in this city  - the heart of the country's political and cultural life and one of its most dynamic economic centres - are Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho and Zara Home. The Group's stores are located in the city's leading shopping centres and on some of the busiest shopping thoroughfares, such as Quianmen street (in the Chongwen district) and Wang Fujing avenue (in the Dongcheng district).
