Minsait, the Indra business unit that faces the challenges of digital transformation, will be Iberdrola's partner in the major technological transformation project of the energy group's distribution network asset management system. The collaboration agreement contemplates the implementation of a new national GIS platform designed to meet asset information needs in a more agile and simple manner as well as its integration with the remaining energy business support systems.

Another of the project's main objectives is to meet the current requirement shared by all Spanish electricity distribution companies to effectively adapt to the new regulatory framework, ensuring coherence between the physical units (operational facilities and assets), the GIS system and the construction management, investment, accounting and regulatory systems.

The new solution incorporates advanced modeling, operating and reporting tools that are designed to more efficiently and reliably address distribution network operational and consulting needs. The project also contemplates mobility as a key element for defining the user role interaction strategy.

In other words, the platform allows a single business process to be defined, initiated, executed and completed by the organization's different user profiles using tools accessed through various channels (web, tablets, cell phones). Web services and solutions oriented to the analysis and assurance of network inventory quality will be defined and launched, in addition to mobility solutions to meet on-site information exploitation and consulting needs during distribution network inspection and maintenance tasks.

Iberdrola owns one of the world's largest electricity distribution networks, surpassed only by EDF, Enel Group and E.ON. The new GIS platform will be responsible for managing more than 10 million supply points, 260,000 kilometers of distribution lines (high-, medium- and low-voltage), about 94,000 transformer stations and more than 4 million general junction boxes. The platform is to be used by more than 5,000 users, both Iberdrola employees and those of collaborating companies, to guarantee that the electrical distribution network is capable of providing maximum availability levels.

Leadership in the development of GIS projects for the energy sector

The project consolidates Indra's positioning in the development, implementation and progression of GIS solutions for electrical energy distribution companies. The company has successfully implemented and integrated these types of platforms with core business systems for Red Eléctrica de España (REE), Gas Natural Fenosa, Kenya Power (Kenya), Elektro (Brazil), Electrica (Romania) and Electrodunas (Peru). It was also responsible for technologically upgrading the GIS of the Portuguese electricity operator EDP.

Minsait accumulates a significant amount of knowledge in implementing large Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI), LBS (Location Based Services) applications and Real Time Location Systems (RTLS), both outdoor and indoor, with a multi-sector focus. Through its FEEP Geographic Information platform, its product suite supports structural data on network assets in graphic and alphanumeric format through to the exploitation of both outdoor and indoor localization of these assets as a differential factor of any organization.
