The Human Resource Executive magazine recognized Marcia Avedon on its 2015 list of The Most Powerful Women in HR. Avedon is the senior vice president of human resources, communications and corporate affairs for Ingersoll Rand, a world leader in creating comfortable, sustainable and efficient environments.

Avedon leads a team of global human resources professionals who focus on building the leadership effectiveness, talent and capabilities necessary to achieve business objectives and deliver premier performance. She also oversees the company’s corporate communications, branding and government affairs practices, engaging with stakeholders around the world to enhance the company’s brand and reputation with employees, customers and investors.

Prior to joining Ingersoll Rand, Avedon was chief human resources officer at Merck & Co., with global responsibility for human resource strategies, programs and policies. Prior to Merck, Avedon held a variety of leadership positions spanning human resources and communications at Honeywell. She also worked in human resources for Anheuser-Busch Companies, and began her career as a management consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton.

Avedon serves on the Boards of Directors for the Center for Creative Leadership, the HR Policy Association and the Cornell University Center for Advanced Human Resources Studies. She is the inaugural chair of the University of South Carolina’s Center for Executive Succession and chairs the Board of Advisors for the Belk College of Business, University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In 2013, Avedon was elected a National Academy of Human Resources Fellow, the highest honor in the field of human resources.

She holds a Ph.D. and Masters in industrial and organizational psychology from George Washington University, and a B.A. in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
