U.S. government customers try out Global Xpress on test flight

22 March 2017: U.S. government customers witnessed the unique performance of Global Xpress in an aviation tour which highlights growing user interest in its SATCOM as a Service capability.

Following the successful Global Xpress for Aviation world tour last year, which introduced the high-throughput wideband service by visiting 10 cities across four continents, key partner Honeywell's 757 test aircraft took to the skies again over the Southeastern United States.

The test aircraft tour started out in Phoenix, Arizona with stops in Fayetteville, North Carolina; Charleston, South Carolina; and Crestview, Florida. During these stops, groups of U.S. government users joined Inmarsat and Honeywell for a hands-on experience of the Global Xpress service and Honeywell's JetWave™ system.

Interoperable solution

While onboard, government users successfully transmitted video feeds to their operation centre, sent large files via email and performed video calls on a range of devices - all while experiencing a high-quality connection. These services were available on the ground and in the air, while seamlessly performing beam-to-beam transitions.

Steve Gizinski, Inmarsat Vice President of Special Programs, Inmarsat's U. S. Government Business Unit, commented: 'Global Xpress continues to draw a significant number of new government customers due to its unique uniform global coverage, reliability, affordability and seamless interoperability with military satellite resources.

'With committed information rates available throughout the world - backed-up by solid service level agreements - government end users know that they will always get the connectivity they need, where they need it.'

Inmarsat is committed to seeking ways to cost-effectively match high capable, reliable and user-friendly innovation with specific government requirements.
