Inmarsat opens new Tokyo office

21 June 2016: Inmarsat is pleased to announce the opening of a new office in Tokyo, Japan, reflecting the growing importance of the Asia-Pacific region to our business.

The official opening, attended by Inmarsat partners and customers, included a traditional Kagamibiraki sake ceremony - the breaking of a cask of sake with a wooden mallet before being shared amongst the guests. The ceremony is said to bring blessings of health, prosperity and happiness to all present.

Gerbrand Schalkwijk, Inmarsat Maritime Chief Sales Officer, spoke at the opening and said: 'We are very excited about the new Inmarsat Tokyo office. Asia-Pacific is a key region across all our business sectors, including Maritime, Aviation, Government and Enterprise and we look forward to forging even closer strategic ties with our partners, equipment manufacturers and end users.'

Additional speakers at the event included the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) Japan Senior Economic Adviser, Mr Etsuo Watanabe, who confirmed their commitment to supporting growth and expansion of UK business in Japan.
