NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / July 19, 2017 / U.S. markets were mixed Tuesday as a disappointing performance from bank stocks continued to overshadow solid earnings. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.25 percent to close at 21,574.73, while the S&P 500 Index eked out a gain of 0.01 percent to close at 2,460.61. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 0.47 percent to close at 6,344.31. Investors will be paying a close attention to earnings this season as the first quarter saw the S&P 500 post the best earnings since 2011, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. Analysts' predict earnings for S&P 500 companies are expected to grow by 8.2 percent year-over-year in the second quarter.

"The market is responding to earnings releases this week, but the bigger picture remains positive: low inflation, low-interest rates, a weaker dollar and a benign economic environment all bode well for stocks," said Maris Ogg, president at Tower Bridge Advisors.
