Wisconsin Public Service Corporation Proposes New Electric Base Rates for its Michigan Customers The base rate change request is the first since 2007 and only the third time since 1987 Green Bay, WI - Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (WPSC), a subsidiary of Integrys Energy Group, Inc. (NYSE: TEG), today filed a request with the Michigan Public Service Commission to raise the electric rates of its approximately 9,400 customers in the upper peninsula of Michigan over the next three years. The proposal will result in a typical residential customer bill for 600 kilowatt-hours monthly being increased by $10.88 in 2015, $9.28 in 2016, and $5.02 in 2017. Included in the amounts is a proposed $3 monthly increase in the fixed charge to $12.00/month. "The proposed increase will bring the rates for our Michigan customers more in line with our Wisconsin customers," said Lisa Prunty, WPSC Manager - Public Relations. "Also, even after the proposed increase, our Michigan customers will be paying rates comparable to the Michigan average." Cited as reasons for the increase were general inflation and the completion of several large projects since the last rate case, including:
  • The 99 MW Crane Creek Wind project was placed into service in 2009.
  • The acquisition of the Fox Energy Center. Since the purchase of the gas-fired generation facility in March of 2013, our Michigan customers have benefited from the power generated by the Fox Energy Center but haven't shared in the ownership cost, which is approximately $1.6 million per year.
  • Environmental upgrades at the Columbia and Weston power plants.
