First Compressed Natural Gas Fueling Facility in Wisconsin
Dedicated
Green Bay, WI - The rain and snow stayed at bay for several
hours on Thursday, April 19, 2012, allowing Integrys
Transportation Fuels (ITF), a subsidiary of Integrys Energy
Group (NYSE: TEG), Paper Transport and the BP SuperStore in
De Pere, Wisconsin to dedicate the first public high-capacity
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Fuel facility for hundreds of
miles.
The audience of more than forty people, consisting of area
politicians, existing and potential CNG customers and others
learned more about the economics, the system and its
operation. Also at the dedication, the De Pere Assistant Fire
Chief spoke about the safety of the product and its
environmental benefits. Jeff Shefchik, President of Paper
Transport told his story about his quest to have some of his
fleet convert to CNG engines. He reiterated the economics of
the fueling system and that it was the right time for them to
get involved in the development of the station. "We can
now offer others the opportunity to run their products with
CNG fuel" Shefchik said. "The closest station was
more than a hundred miles away so having a facility in our
back yard will open up new opportunities for fleets."
In reference to acquisitions Integrys has made to accelerate
its CNG business plan, Integrys Energy Group Executive Vice
President and Chief Strategy Officer Mark Radke said,
"Because we already had a clear understanding of natural
gas, it wasn't a great leap to bring quality companies
like Trillium and Pinnacle into the Integrys family. We were
eager to add this new addition to our energy portfolio
because we knew we would be involved in an emerging industry
that could bring our customers another energy service option
that could add to their bottom-line, and is environmentally
friendly, safe, and reliable."
Job one for ITF is to educate potential consumers and the
general public of the benefits of CNG. As demand for the
service grows, more facilities like to the De Pere location
will be constructed and soon there will may many fueling
centers in the Midwest. ITF is working with other fueling
centers and fleet operators to make the CNG product more
readily available.
Later, a the ribbon was cut and the tours had ended, a
bystander who just filled up his big rig with diesel to the
tune of $800.00 was shocked when he found out the price for
CNG fuel was $1.99 per gallon, less than half the price for
diesel. He was impressed and said he was going to look into
CNG. Since March 1, 2012 when the station began offering CNG,
more than 46,000 gallons have been sold.
