NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / August 22, 2017 / Intel and AMD both fell into the red on Monday despite Intel announcing big news about its eight generation Core line and a Wells Fargo analyst reiterating an "outperform" rating on both companies and writing that both companies can boost the personal computer market with new parts.

Intel Corporation's shares traded fairly flat on Monday but still fell modestly into the red, closing down 0.26%. The California-based semiconductor company announced that its new processors will deliver the biggest jump in performance that personal PC users haven't seen in many years. According to Intel, the company's eighth generation of its Core line will provide as much as a 40 percent jump over its predecessor, and has called this leap something that happens only once in ten years. The chips will come to market built in new laptop next month. The company's chips are over 80% of the world's PCs and in the second quarter, Intel revealed that its PC chip unit saw a 12% jump in sales.

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.'s shares closed down 2.59% on Monday with nearly 59 million shares traded. David Wong of Wells Fargo wrote this week that the firm thinks that "the new PC chips from Intel and AMD could help stimulate PC demand in the seasonally strong second half of this year." It's been a busy past month for AMD. Last month the company released two "mainstream-priced" Ryzen 3 desktop processors and unveiled AMD Studios. This month the company's new Radeon RX Vega high-end graphics card went on sale and in the coming months, the company is expected to unveil a notebook version of its "Ryzen" processor family. AMD was among other tech stocks to fall on Monday despite the positive note from Wells Fargo. The stock hit a one month low yesterday and share prices have decreased more than 13% in the last four weeks.
