TOKYO-March 25, 2015-Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced the launch of "IIJ GIO Component Service Database Add-On In-Memory Platform for SAP HANA®" on April 1, 2015. The new service will allow customers to access SAP HANA®-an in-memory database from SAP-via IIJ's cloud computing platform. This service is based on the trial environment that IIJ has offered through "IIJ GIO for SAP Solution PoC for SAP HANA"(*) , which was announced in June 2014. IIJ has extended the functionality available in the trial environment so that the new service can be used in system landscapes for development, testing and production environments.

SAP HANA is a database product developed by SAP that uses in-memory technologies. It enables ultra-high-speed data processing by storing and analyzing data in memory without accessing data on disk. Although an increasing number of companies have intentions of deploying SAP Business Suite, SAP's application for mission-critical tasks, in combination with SAP HANA, the steep price of hardware purchases and other factors can cause a significant rise in the initial investment required, sometimes making implementation infeasible. Because of this, there is rising interest in using SAP HANA in the cloud computing. IIJ's new service enables customers to run all mission-critical systems, including SAP HANA, in the cloud computing service and without unnecessary expenses in equipment in-house, thus optimizing operating costs.

Service Highlights Enables assetless access to an SAP HANA environment

For a monthly fee, this service provides customers an SAP HANA appliance-allocated for each customer's dedicated use-that resides in the IIJ GIO, IIJ's cloud computing service. IIJ installs the OS and SAP HANA software, and the monitoring and running of the hardware are included in the monthly fee.

Extensible up to maximums of 2TB of memory and 60-core CPUs

The lineup consists of four grades of service, from a model with 256GB of memory and a 30-core CPU to one with 2TB of memory and a 60-core CPU. This extensibility makes the service fit for everything from a development environment to a large-scale production environment.

Compatible with the latest SAP S/4HANA

In addition to SAP Business Suite powered by HANA, the service is compatible with the SAP Business Suite 4 SAP HANA (S/4HANA)-the fourth generation of SAP software that includes significant improvements in terms of real-time operations and usability. Furthermore, by combining the service with "IIJ GIO Component Service Virtual Platform VW Series," customers can run a variety of applications in tandem with SAP HANA.

To use this service, customers must have a VW Series contract and their own license for SAP HANA. IIJ does not provide support for the SAP software itself.
