Interserve, the international support services and construction group, has been awarded a place on London Gatwick Airport's construction framework to take forward the next stage of the airport's transformation.

The company is one of five firms selected to undertake medium-complexity civil engineering contracts worth between £1 million and £10 million.

Ian Renhard, Managing Director of Interserve's construction business, said:

'This award highlights our strong track record in the aviation sector and our ability to deliver complex projects for our customers. We look forward to working collaboratively with Gatwick Airport and our supply chain partners to deliver the exciting projects ahead.'

Gatwick's £1.2 billion capital investment programme runs until 2021 and covers the expansion of its North and South terminals, the expansion of South terminal immigration halls and surface access and road improvements.

Raymond Melee, Gatwick's Development Director, said:

'Interserve will help to deliver the next phase of Gatwick's transformation, which has already seen £1.3 billion of investment since independent ownership in 2009. Gatwick is growing fast with more than 41 million passengers a year now travelling through the world's busiest single runway airport - a decade ahead of industry predictions.'

Gatwick will either negotiate individual contracts or open tender competitions with companies on the framework.

To deliver key environmental and sustainability objectives, contractors will contribute to key environmental targets in line with Gatwick's ambition to become the UK's most sustainable airport.
