Intertek (www.intertek.com), a leading provider of quality and safety services to industries worldwide, expands their Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical Substances (REACH) Chemical Services in Canada to assist businesses with Europe’s REACH Regulation (EC 1907/2006) compliance requirements.

Chemical companies that manufacture in or import into the EU above one tonne but not more than 100 tonnes per year are working diligently to meet the May 31, 2018 REACH deadline for substances they have not yet registered. As a result, the REACH Chemical Action Plan was designed to provide clients, with an understanding of the REACH Regulation, a quick reference document or “Roadmap”, containing an outline of the mandatory requirements that must be met prior to conducting business within the European Community.

This document identifies the compliance actions required by the client and/or their supply chain and may include Only Representative appointment, pre-registration, inquiry submission, and full registration. Other obligations, such as updated Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), notification to the European Chemicals Agency’s Classification & Labelling Inventory, and any additional authorization requirements will also be identified. Given that packaging and other requirements must be fulfilled for all products, which are destined for the European market, this plan will also include a supporting document that identifies the terms, definitions, concepts and theories needed to provide an enhanced understanding of the REACH Regulation.

Mr. Roman Humeniuk, Regulatory Supervisor states, “Companies understandably require more education and guidance to successfully navigate through one of the most thorough and complicated chemical regulations in the world. Most organizations don’t have the time, expertise or resources to get acquainted with the vast array of requirements within REACH. Usually, with assistance and a more robust education, they are able to completely understand and implement their REACH requirements. Companies who fail to meet their REACH obligations can be subject to fines and litigation as well as being forced to stop shipments and conduct product recalls. Intertek’s guidance can help reduce this risk, and develop the most expedient and cost-effective approach for clients to expand their business and comply with the regulations.”
