CoInnovate 2018 is a world-class high tech event bringing engineering and technical minds from across academic institutions, corporates, and start-ups together to explore the collaborative opportunities for future tech solutions. Hosted at Mercure Holland House Hotel, Cardiff, on 24 January 2018, delegates will have unprecedented access to discussions on emerging technologies, insights on best practice, and opportunities to forge beneficial connections.

Hosted for the third time after its success in 2015, the free-to-attend CoInnovate 2018 recognises the complexity of innovation, and aims to facilitate conversations and collaborations to share technologies and approaches across industries. The Collaboration PitStop returns to the event, where industry will pitch their challenges to technologists and innovators across academia and business.

CoInnovate 2018 will host a special evening session to introduce the world's first cluster on compound semiconductor technologies and applications. Made possible by a number of initiatives, including the Cardiff Capitol Region City Deal, the EPSRC award on the Future Compound Semiconductor Manufacturing Hub, and the newly established Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult, the cluster is slated to create up to 2,000 high-value jobs and lead impressive technological advances.

Commenting on CoInnovate 2018, Kellie Beirne, of Monmouthshire County Council, one of the CoInnovate Partners, said:

'CoInnovate is going to help mobilise a movement so that the 'triple helix' of business-Higher Education-Government clearly understands the problems that technologies could be the best fix for, creating a 'whole is greater than the sum' feeling.'

This strength of collaboration at CoInnovate has been further echoed by industry as Nick Crew of Airbus Group Endeavr Wales stated:

'CoInnovate is a fantastic opportunity for business, industry, academia and government to get together to address real-world challenges.'

The strength of the South West and Wales' tech clusters is indicative of the UK's prowess in technology and innovation. At CoInnovate 2018, scientific and technological trends and opportunities will be highlighted through the morning session, 'Future Tech', and the afternoon session 'Future Regions', with topics including new sensor technologies, machine learning, Industry 4.0 automation, additive manufacturing, and regional opportunities.

Exhibitors will showcase their technologies to multinationals and investors alike, and a stellar line-up of speakers including Professor in Wireless Communications at King's College London Mischa Dohler, William Sachiti from the Institute of Robotics, Professor of Materials Physics at the University of Sussex Alan Dalton, and Professor Izzet Kale from the University of Westminster, are the first to be announced.

CoInnovate organiser, Denise Powell, Open Innovation Manager at IQE, commented:

'There is a wealth of dynamic and disruptive individuals and organisations here in the UK, but collaboration opportunities are being missed because we simply don't know the complex challenges being faced by others. CoInnovate 2018 plays a pivotal role in getting everyone in one place, talking about the radical ways to innovate for the future.'

The regional importance of the M4 corridor, south west of England, and Wales highlights the London-centric approach that must be diversified - and CoInnovate 2018 is trailblazing this. Register now to exhibit or participate and follow progress online using #CoInnovate2018.
