ITOCHU Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Masahiro Okafuji, President & CEO; hereinafter 'ITOCHU') announced today that ITOCHU and ITOCHU Urban Community Ltd.ITOCHU Urban Community Co. Ltd. (headquartered in Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Koji Fukaki, President & CEO; hereinafter 'ITOCHU Urban Community') have commenced construction of Motosumiyoshi International Dormitory (tentative name), which will be the tenth student dormitory of Keio University (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Atsushi Seike, President).

In 2008, the Japanese government announced the '300000 Foreign Students Plan,' which calls for an increase in the number of foreign students in Japan from 140,000 currently to 300,000 students by 2020. As an initiative to create an environment in which foreign students feel secure and able to focus on their studies, the government aims to enhance support, principally for foreign university students, by providing a conducive living environment. Among the universities in Japan, Keio University was selected as one of the universities for the TopSuper Global University Project* initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and is proactively enrolling foreign students and promoting international cultural exchange activities. The university sees the construction of an additional international dormitory where foreign students and Japanese students can live together and learn from each other as an important initiative that contributes to cultivating future global leaders.

To build and operate the new dormitory envisaged by Keio University, ITOCHU, with functions and knowhow fostered through its experience in developing condominiums, and ITOCHU Urban Community, with a track record of operating student dormitories for more than 40 years, have been working together to plan and investigate candidate construction sites. ITOCHU is constructing the dormitory building as the project owner and ITOCHU Urban Community is administering the project.

The facility will comply with the needs of Keio University, and emphasis will be placed on safety and comfortable lifestyles for the students. For student safety, the facility will feature 24-hour on-site security by Mr. and Mrs. dormitory a house manager and entry/exit control using the IC card key system. In addition, breakfast and dinner will be served at a dining hall, and each room will feature furniture, refrigerator, a toilet, bath and washstand to ensure comfortable lifestyles and convenience. Records of entry/exit to and from the facility and meals will be available for inspection by the students' guardians who live separately from their children in foreign countries or rural districts in Japan, to allow them watch over their children's daily lives. The facility is well located and conveniently accessed with an 8-minute walk from the nearest station and in a walking distance from Hiyoshi and

ITOCHU and ITOCHU Urban Community will continue to proactively drive the development of student dormitories for the purpose of providing quality living space to students.
